Highland Springs, Belfast, Mpumalanga

The estate name comes from the amount of natural springs that are on the farm, forming wonderful wetland areas.

Much work has gone into developing an estate that retains a Highland farm feel with many more exciting developments happening in the future. A new reception area, convenience store, restaurant, pub, horse stables, farm yard, small chapel and other facilities are currently being planned or are already under construction. The farm will shortly have 25 exclusive homes available for sale, offering people an opportunity to live in a safe, comfortable environment or to own an exclusive holiday home in the country.

Fishing

Fishing is available in a 10 hectare dam, stocked with monster bass and trout. Float tubing, bank fishing and small boat fishing is possible. A three hectare dam with very good bass fishing is also available. A small raft can be used for access to the reeds and deeper water. Two smaller 1 hectare dams are very well stocked with trout and are very popular with guests. Boats and raft are used entirely at your own risk. Catch and release is preferred for trout but the catch may be kept at a fee of R65-00 per kilogram. Bass may be kept free of charge.

We currently charge R25-00 per person per day for fishing. The funds are used to stock and maintain the dams. Please report all catches for the purpose of record keeping.

Catch and release procedure:
Trout are very susceptible to disease and injury and therefore care must be taken when releasing them back into the water. If possible, do not remove the fish from the water and make absolutely sure that your hands are wet.

Gently remove the hook and coax the fish until it swims away. Never throw the fish back into the water. Should the fish not recover or it dies, please remove it from the water, weigh it and pay the applicable fee to management. We rely on honesty with regard to the fishing and reporting of catches.
