WHAT TO SEE
- NEARBY ATTRACTIONS
THE KRUGER
NATIONAL PARK
The world-renowned Kruger National Park offers a wildlife experience
that ranks with the best in Africa.
Established in 1898 to protect the wildlife of the South African
Lowveld, this national park of nearly 2 million hectares, SANParks -
Kruger National Park is unrivalled in the diversity of its life
forms and a world leader in advanced environmental management
techniques and policies.
SUDWALA CAVES
The Sudwala Caves are the oldest known caves in the world, and as
such, are a `must-see' on the itinerary of any visitor to
Mpumalanga.
These incredible caverns lie in the Drakensberg escarpment which
separates the Highveld from the lowlands of Mpumalanga.
Besides the awesome rock displays the caverns also boast an array of
calcium formations, aged but active, anciently and patiently still
growing.
THREE RONDAVELS
The ‘Three Rondavels' (also called 'Three Sisters’) are three huge
spirals of dolomite rock rising out of the far wall of the Blyde
River canyon.
Their domed heads are iced in green and their sides are stained with
fiery orange lichen. From the 'Three Rondavels' you can see the
extensive Swadini Dam in the far distance, which marks the end of
the reserve.
MAC MAC FALLS
The 65 m high Mac Mac Falls in the Mac Mac River is a declared
National Monument.
This waterfall was originally a single stream, but gold miners
blasted it with dynamite to divert the river in an attempt to work
the rich gold-bearing reef over which it plunges.
HISTORIC PILGRIMS REST
The history of this small delightful village dates back to 1873 when
a miner, Alex Patterson, discovered alluvial gold on the farm named
Ponieskrantz.
The diggers called it Pilgrim's Rest because here, at last, after so
many false trails and faded dreams they had truly found their home.
BURKE'S LUCK POTHOLES
The Potholes were named after a gold digger, Tom Burke, who staked a
claim nearby. Although his claim did not produce a single ounce of
gold, he correctly predicted that large gold deposits would be found
in the area.
The Potholes is located 35km north of Graskop town on the R532 road.
The informative visitors centre details some of the interesting
natural and socio-historic features and is the starting point of the
700m walk to the potholes.
GOD'S WINDOW
With magnificent views, canyons, rock formations and waterfalls,
God's Window is truly an area of breathtaking scenic splendour.
It is no wonder that Mpumalanga is known as Paradise Country!
Gods Window is so called for the panoramic view of the Lowveld
EMNOTWENI CASINO
In the mountains of Nelspruit along the banks of the Crocodile River
you will find the ideal entertainment destination - come spend the
day at Emnotweni Casino Resort.
Emnotweni is Zulu slang, meaning 'where the money is at'.
THE LOWVELD BOTANICAL GARDEN
The character of the Garden is shaped by the two main rivers that
cut across it, namely the Crocodile River and the Nels River.
Before these two rivers converge in the Garden, they form
spectacular waterfalls which can be viewed at the Cascades and the
Nels viewpoints.
