Porcupine Ridge Guest House:

Janet and John extend
a warm welcome to their beautiful
country house, tucked away in the mountains at
the heart of the Panorama Route, yet only 5km from the
amenities of Sabie village and 50km from
Kruger National Park.
Perched above an old gold mine and part of the original
mining village, this stylish retreat combines old world
charm with modern comforts. The friendly ambiance
invites you to relax and unwind, free to do as much or
as little as you like, surrounded by rambling gardens,
abundant birdlife, glorious mountain scenery and the
Sabie River valley below. There are
lovely walks right on the
doorstep, through indigenous bush, grasslands and
plantations, where a variety of small game may be seen.
Birding is excellent with a current list of 134 species.
A spectacular waterfall with a deep pool for swimming is
a special delight.
Accommodation
Porcupine Ridge has five immaculate en-suite bedrooms, a
welcoming guest lounge with deep, comfy chairs,
satellite TV, honesty bar and cosy fireplace, a spacious
dining room and two large covered verandahs for
relaxation and alfresco meals. There is plenty of
enclosed parking with lock up garaging available if
required.
Please note: no smoking is allowed inside the guest
house.
All the bedrooms have seating areas with beverage trays,
hairdryers, clock radios, ceiling fans, heaters,
electric blankets, 2pin Euro sockets, toiletries and
generous bath sheets. Quality queen or twin (3/4) beds
have white percale linen with pure silk duvets in summer
and cosy duck down duvets in winter. Two 'superior'
rooms are extra spacious with lovely views, mini bars,
complimentary sherry and chocolates. Each bedroom has an
en-suite bathroom with either bath, with shower over, or
shower only. Each room sleeps two and one has an extra
sleeper couch.
Dining
Leisurely English breakfasts comprise of a cold buffet,
complimented by a cooked breakfast with daily variations
and interesting options, a choice of teas and locally
grown coffee. A Continental selection of cold meats and
cheeses can be served on request. Generous packed
breakfasts can be provided for 'early birds'.
Delicious 3 course dinners and 'cook your own' braais
(barbecues) by prior arrangement. A wide selection of
eateries, from coffee shops and pancake places to
steakhouses, pubs and fine-dining restaurants can be
found in Sabie and surrounds.
Attractions And Activities
Porcupine Ridge is perfectly placed for an incredible
variety of attractions and activities.
Tour the scenic Panorama Route with its beautiful
waterfalls, God's Window, Bourke's Luck Potholes and
Blyde River Canyon. Return via the quaint gold-rush
village of Pilgrim's Rest and try your hand at Gold
Panning. Embark on a geological expedition to
Sudwala Caves, oldest known
caves in the world. Go on Safari to the world renowned
Kruger National Park.
Experience unusual wildlife encounters at an elephant
sanctuary, wildlife rehabilitation centre, cheetah
breeding project, bird of prey centre, chimpanzee eden
and private game reserves.
Golfers will find a variety
of scenic and challenging courses within an hour's
drive. Adrenalin junkies are spoilt for choice with a
mind blowing list of adventure activities practically on
the doorstep. Sabie is well known for trout fishing,
mountain biking and hiking. Gentler pursuits include
cultural tours, farm tours, craft markets, artist's
studios, country shopping and day spas.
